Hayling Island Seafront,
Hampshire
Clients: Havant Borough Council and Tourism South East
Working in a multi-disciplinary team
with Terra Firma Consultancy and HGP Architects we produced
a masterplan for the Hayling Island seafront area.
Hayling Island is a popular centre for watersports based
activities including kite surfing, sailing and windsurfing.
The overall masterplan includes introducing a specialist
activity centre to service the needs of ‘adventure tourists’
and the local community. Our work focussed on understanding
the latest market trends within the leisure and tourism
sectors to identify the commercial development opportunities
to regenerate the product in this coastal destination.
North Soar, Nottinghamshire
Client: North
Soar Trails Syndicate
North Soar is an
attractive rural area of approximately 50 square miles
located to the south of Nottingham and north of
Loughborough. The area has a number of walking, cycling and
horse riding trails. We were commissioned by the North
Soar Trails Syndicate to carry out research into the
opportunity of creating a tourist destination, based, on
developing activity products including cycling, horse riding
and walking. Our work involved extensive desktop research
and a major consultation exercise, which helped to identify
the potential development opportunities. The work included
the production of a structured and costed action plan to
take forward initiatives to help create a new ‘tourist
destination’ around the main ‘activity product’
opportunities.
East
Beach, Selsey, West Sussex
Client: Chichester District Council
Working with Terra Firma Landscape Architects and Marks
Barfield Architects, we were commissioned by Chichester
District Council to produce a regeneration masterplan for
the East Beach area in Selsey. The site has multiple user
groups including recreational divers for which Selsey is
well known. Our work included a consultation exercise,
identifying examples of innovative coastal regeneration
projects, carrying out a market review and identifying
commercial opportunities. A key theme was the need to
balance a range of local community user requirements and
priorities including fishermen, special interest and
education based visits and tourists.
Pier Parade, South Shields
Client: South Tyneside Council
We were commissioned to carry out a commercial review of the
leisure options for the Pier Parade area, within the coastal
zone, in South Shields, the main visitor magnet in the
resort. Work focused on carrying out a site review and
appraisal of the area; identifying and reviewing the key
commercial opportunities; carrying out an options appraisal;
preparing a risk assessment and setting out the next steps
to delivery the initiative to help create a vibrant
destination which responded to market needs.
